Longtime South Beach resident Paul J. Farina, 80, a retired police officer and a dedicated family man, died Wednesday in Staten Island University Hospital, in Ocean Breeze.
Born in Manhattan, he moved with his family to Italy as an infant, and returned to the United States in 1935, settling in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. He moved to Brooklyn in 1960 and settled in South Beach in 1964.
Mr. Farina served in the U.S. Army Rangers and saw duty in the Korean War.
An officer for the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, he retired in the mid-1980s. He had served as president of the TBTA Retirees Association.
Mr. Farina most enjoyed spending time with his family. He also loved to take trips to Atlantic City.
He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Joan DeSantis); his sons, Charles J. and Paul C., and eight grandchildren. His son, Joseph, died in 2007.
Visiting Hours: Friday 2to4pm and 7to9pm.
Funeral mass on Saturday at 10:30am at Holy Rosary Church, Staten Island, NY.
